In this paper, I will discuss the field of dentistry. I will briefly describe the meaning of dentistry, talk about the education requirements and the different jobs you can have under the field of dentistry. Dentistry is the branch of medicine that is involved in the study, diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of diseases, disorders and conditions of the oral cavity, maxillofacial area and the adjacent and associated structures and their impact on the human body. Dentistry is widely considered necessary for complete overall health. The doctors that practice dentistry are called dentist. (Wikipedia.org) A dentist has the job of preventing and treating patient's teeth, gums and mouth. Other occupations under the dentistry field are orthodontist, oral surgeons and prosthodontists.
In our country, a dentist must finish a four year college and then go to a four year dental program at another college. Once completed, a person can qualify as a doctor of dental surgery (DDS) or as a doctor of dental medicine (DMD). Most dental school graduates go right to work in dental offices to build clients, skills and practice. In treating teeth and gums, the main goal of a dentist is to make sure his patients have clean and healthy teeth. A dentist helps patients keep up with their dental hygiene as well. When ones mouth area is infected or about to be, a dentist can detect what is causing the infection. It will take many years and lots of training and keeping up with treatments and cures to protect the teeth, gums and mouth. A dentist has an important role and is considered very important in the healthcare industry.
